UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
"With our sight fixed on the mystery of the Incarnation of the Son of God, the Church is preparing to cross the threshold of the third millennium...Indeed, the whole human history is situated before it, our today and the future of the world are enlightened by his presence."
JOHN PAUL II (11/29/98)
Those of us who integrate the spiritual family of Father Manyanet live this event, accomplished in Bethlehem and Nazareth, as the origin of the Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph and the foundation of our identity in the Church.
SONS OF
THE HOLY FAMILY
SONS OF THE HOLY FAMILY
A congregation of priests and brothers whose official title is:
CONGREGATIO FILIORUM SACRAE FAMILIAE (SF).
It was founded in 1864 by Father Joseph Manyanet (d.1901) in Tremp, Lerida, Spain, and was granted final approval by the Holy See in 1901.
PURPOSE OF THE CONGREGATION
The purpose of the congregation is to promote devotion to the Holy Family and to foster true Christian family life. This apostolate is accomplished through the education of youth and the organization of a family movement consisting of instruction in the faith and in the management of the ideal Catholic home.
BLESSED JOSEP MANYANET
(1833-1901)
DEVELOPMENT OF THE CONGREGATION
The early development of the congregation was slow and uncertain; political upheavals and persecutions, especially during the Spanish Civil War, brought the society close to extinction. Not until the reconstruction in Spain in the 1940s did the Sons of the Holy Family begin to prosper. Since then they have spread outside Spain and have founded new schools and institutions.
INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF THE HOLY FAMILY
By 1965 they were well established as a teaching society in Spain, Italy, and Argentina. They maintained the general secretariat of the International Association of the Holy Family. This task was entrusted to them by Pius XI and was endorsed by Pius XII, who entrusted to them also the building of an international shrine to the Holy Family in Rome.
